The Hammer

What? Really? "The Hammer?" Yes. "The Hammer." The Hammer is our lead software coder and it would not bode well for this person to have their name known as a part of this project. We had to call them something, so... "The Hammer, it is."

So why did I choose this name, well because it fits obviously. I've known the hammer as a good friend for many years now. Back as far as my days of working in London. From the time I met The Hammer I have been impressed with this person's ability to just "bang out code." When code is needed it just appears. I'm not talking a little data filtering routine, I mean real code.

Need a mail server? Bang, we have a mail server. Need a web server? Bang, we have a web server. Need an SQL engine? Bang, well you get the idea.... Why write these things and not just use "Postfix," or "Apache," or "SQL Lite?" Well The Hammer usually has a good reason. I usually get, "It's easier for me to write it than learn what someone else has done." I'm happy to go with what's faster for now. We both know that SQL Lite is eventually going to come into play. Apache is going to be integrated one way or another and Postfix, or some other mail server, is going to be in the picture. For now though, "it's easier to write it." Taking this approach also gives us full control to create exactly the features we need and only what we need. This becomes a good strawman. Running from a strawman we can have a clear idea what is important in the other tools before we actually implement so that our use of them can be more precise.

So when The Hammer speaks, I listen. It's the least I can do considering all the work I throw The Hammer's way. I figure I'm going to start getting called "The Whip" before long. :^)
